A quote request is more useful when it defines the shipment rather than asking only for a price. Include enough details for the provider to understand the route, equipment, timing and handoffs. If a key item is not confirmed yet, mark it as pending so everyone knows the quote may be provisional.

What to prepare

List the pickup and delivery points, preferred date or range, container length and type, loaded or empty status, approximate gross weight, terminal or booking references, appointment needs and site access details. Note extra stops, empty return instructions, waiting risks, unloading arrangements and the contacts who can answer questions. Ask the provider to spell out inclusions, exclusions and the period for which the quote applies.

Keep the move specific

Use one consistent scope when comparing providers. Final pricing and availability should be confirmed in writing for the actual shipment.
