Not every port delay can be prevented, but several common issues are avoidable: an unreleased container, incorrect reference, missed appointment instruction, incomplete delivery address or a receiving site that is closed. Assign an owner for each outstanding item and check status near the planned dispatch rather than assuming yesterday’s update still applies.
What to prepare
Before dispatch, reconcile container and booking references, confirm release and terminal availability, review appointment or cutoff requirements and verify receiving hours. Give the driver or dispatcher precise site instructions, including entrance, contact and safe waiting guidance. Share changes quickly, especially a hold, rescheduled appointment or updated delivery window.
Keep the move specific
Use the terminal and shipment parties as the source for current operating instructions. A preparation checklist can reduce avoidable errors, but it cannot control congestion, weather or other external disruption.
