A loaded import delivery can be only one part of a container move. The empty container may need to return to a specified depot or terminal within a defined period, and the return location or acceptance rules can differ from the pickup plan. Clarify the return obligation early to avoid an unexpected second leg or a deadline problem.

What to prepare

Confirm who selects or authorizes the return location, whether an appointment is needed, the equipment condition requirements and the applicable deadline. Share the empty return address or process, reference number, and contact responsible for exceptions. Ask whether the transport quote includes the empty leg, a separate trip or waiting. Do not rely on a location from a previous shipment without rechecking it.

Keep the move specific

Return instructions can change and should come from the party controlling the equipment. Have the current direction in hand before dispatch.
