Before dispatching a truck to a port terminal, establish that the container is available and that the required release steps are complete. A booking notice or arrival notice by itself may not mean the unit is ready to exit. The freight forwarder, ocean carrier and terminal may each have distinct references or requirements. Check the latest status close to the planned pickup.

What to prepare

Gather the container number, terminal name, pickup authorization or reference, appointment instructions, availability status, last free day if applicable and the contact responsible for resolving a hold. Confirm the delivery address and receiving hours too. If a customs, documentation, payment or other release remains outstanding, identify who owns that task and avoid dispatching until the responsible party confirms readiness.

Keep the move specific

Terminal processes and deadlines are shipment-specific. Use current guidance from the terminal and the parties to the shipment, and communicate any change to the truck dispatcher before arrival.
